Experience - Willow Weaving Course: Mini Garden Sculptures

Learn some traditional basketry skills while you construct a willow flower. See how a corn dolly weave can be used to shape willow forms when making a dragonfly. Watch how the technique is adapted to construct a bee.

Although intended as ephemeral garden sculptures, you may want to treasure your creations in your home as wall art!


  • 10am Welcome and introductions
  • How to choose your withies and learn the construction of a mini sculpture
  • Lunch
  • Participants proceed with construction of their sculptures
  • How to make a willow bee will be demonstrated
  • 3.45pm Tidy up
  • 4pm Finish
  • At some point there will be a break am/pm for tea/coffee and cake/biscuits
  • Participants are welcome to stay at The Bothy to eat their packed lunches
  • Alternatively there are two cafes at Staunton Harold where food can be bought

Clothing advice

Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement. Although we are sheltered to some extent at The Bothy, the weather can be very variable even in June. Who knows, you may even need a sunhat and sunscreen to accompany your warm clothing!

What′s provided

All tuition, materials, use of tools and tea/coffee and homemade biscuits/cake. Note: Particiants will need to bring a packed lunch.
