Here at the Bothy, in addition to our shop displays, we celebrate the seasons, host exhibitions by local crafts folk and hold occasional courses in rural crafts run by the experts.

Gavin Darby′s media is metal and Frailloop is Gavin Darby. Like the iron and steel that he mainly works in, he is drawn to it like a magnet and this Spring he′s presenting a display of wildlife made from salvaged metal - spot the item and never look at a sparkplug or a sprocket in the same way again. If you have not experienced Gavin′s work before, expect to find it refreshing and full of fun.

Experience - Garden Obelisk and Sculpture Willow Weaving Day

A wonderfully relaxing and productive day, spent under the gentle guidance of tutor Rachel Evans. Obelisk building in the morning session and garden sculpture in the afternoon session, including a chance to make snail cane toppers if we are particularly productive. Fee: £30 per session, or £50 full day fee. Tea, coffee and homemade biscuits included.

Local woodturner George Watkins is starting to get a national reputation for the quality and style of his work. His highly original turned and carved wooden forms are very often made with greenwood and therefore even more unique in nature.

Saturday 14th Weave your own Garden Obelisk  Half Day Course
Experience - Weave your own Garden Obelisk Half Day Course

Support your little seedlings with something you have made yourself: a plant support made from our hazel stakes bound together by willow withies and your newly acquired weaving skills. On the course there will also be time to make some woven snail cane toppers. Tea and coffee provided. Half day course (choose 10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm).Course fee £30. Limited places available. Tutor: Rachel Evans. Or maybe someone you know would enjoy the experience? It would make a great treat or a gift.

We present a display of David′s home thrown bowls, honeypots and jugs, all decorated with his artistic talent and inspired by country animals.

Jane specialises in bringing the beauty and structure of materials discarded by the trees themselves into focus. Bark, twigs, thorns and leaves are woven and stitched together in a way much used by our ancestors, to create unique decorative pieces to adorn your home.

Whether you need or are a collector of pre-loved chisels, hammers, wood planes or files: whether they remind you of someone dear in the past busily working with old hand tools, it′s worth a rummage to see what you can find. They don′t make them like they used to and remember this too: when a shed is full, it can always fit a bit more in!

We′re going A.W.O.L.and tentatively branching out with a stall of obelisks,planters, bootjacks and woven animals at the Spring Fair at Sudbury. We are hoping for good weather - surely, we are due some by now!

We′re thinking ahead to the lazy days of Summer and getting ready for enjoying the fruits of our labour when we pick beautiful blooms from the garden. Build a robust trug and you could probably collect your veg in it as well.

Tea, coffee and homemade biscuits provided. Whole day course (10am - 5pm). Course fee £50, includes tuition and materials. Limited places available. Tutor: Rachel Evans.
