The Gardener’s Bothy is situated on the Walled Avenue of the Staunton Harold Estate at the other end to the Ferrers Centre and Staunton Harold Hall.

From the A42 (approximately 3.5 miles to Gardener’s Bothy)

  • A42 Junction 13, take exit at roundabout signposted A511 Ashby, Burton.
  • At next roundabout, take third exit for B587 (signposted Melbourne, Lount).
  • After 3 miles (landmarks Ferrers Arms, Lount village) turn left (B587) at staggered crossroads (signposted Melbourne).
  • Immediately turn left again onto the estate road for Staunton Harold. Traffic is one way; proceed for 1 mile, public car parking is to your right.
  • N.B. 2.1m height restriction on this single track road.
  • Directions from Burton on Trent, A511

  • Travel through Midway, Woodville to Boundary along A511 (Greyhound Pub, water tower).
  • Immediately after the water-tower and before the roundabout at Boundary, turn left along Heath Lane (signposted Calke).
  • After one mile proceed straight over crossroad junction with B5006.
  • After approximately one and a half miles and having negotiated a double bend down a hill, at the next left hand bend in the road, turn right for The Staunton Harold Estate.
  • Proceed up the estate road bearing right just after the second cattle grid. Public car parking is to your left.
  • Directions from Derby, A50/A514

  • A50 Junction 4 take exit for A514, signposted Swadlincote, Melbourne, Swarkstone (landmarks Crewe and Harper Pub, Swarkstone bridge).
  • After passing through Stanton by Bridge village, take right hand junction A514 signposted Ticknall (also a brown sign for Calke Abbey).
  • In Ticknall, turn left onto B5006 signposted Ashby de la Zouch, Smisby.
  • After approximately one mile turn left onto Heath Lane at crossroads on brow of hill.
  • After approximately one and a half miles and having negotiated a double bend down a hill, at the next left hand bend in the road, turn right for The Staunton Harold Estate.
  • Proceed up the estate road bearing right just after the second cattle grid. Public car parking is to your left.
