Small garden birds are a great friend to the gardener and a delight to study while you work or relax.

Encourage more of them to live nearby and use your garden as a larder; provide them with nest sites and winter shelter.

  • FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council. This organisation promotes responsible management of forests. Any product with its logo on assures you that you are buying a product made with timber from a well-managed forest.
  • Wildlife trusts advise that rough wooden surfaces inside the nest help the young birds to climb up towards the entrance.
  • These bird boxes can be opened for cleaning. All boxes should be cleaned out after the breeding season (October) to reduce the chance of pest infestation of baby birds. They can also be scalded with boiling water to kill off any remaining parasites.
  • The size of nest box opening will influence which species of bird will nest in it. A 32mm hole diameter box will attract blue tits, great tits, sparrows and nuthatches. Birds like robins and wagtails need a more open fronted box.
