Firewood

Our firewood is felled by our team of foresters as part of the sustainable management of woodlands in and around the National Forest. Timber is felled during the winter months before being logged on our firewood processor and stored over the summer for sale as seasoned firewood for use in the following winter. This seasoning process, which allows the wood to dry out, is crucial to providing quality logs, as is the choice of hardwood timber, such as ash, beech, sycamore, birch and oak.

Proper storage of logs is essential to allow for continued seasoning. Logs should be sheltered from the worst of the weather, but with some ventilation: a purpose-built Bothy log storeis ideal for the job.
